Upon observing the devastating impact of illicit drug use on young people in Wakiso, AMBSO recognized the urgent need for action. As part of its social responsibility in areas where it conducts its Cohort study (AMBSO Population Health Surveillance - APHS), the institution launched a comprehensive program focused on substance abuse prevention, response, and rehabilitation specifically targeting young people in Wakiso District.
The program uses multifaceted implementation strategies including; collaboration with local organizations, school-based programs, youth engagement activities, provision of Counseling support services, training and capacity building of peer educators and community leaders and community awareness campaigns.
Over time, our initiative has yielded substantial reduction in illicit drug use among young people in implementation areas, indicating a positive and enduring effect
