The Africa Medical and Behavioural Sciences Organization (AMBSO) proudly participated in the “Tubeere Balamu” community health outreach camp organized by Kabaka’s ministry of health at Buddu Saaza Grounds in Masaka District, Uganda. This two-day event, held on the 5th and 6th of December 2024, attracted individuals from across the greater Masaka region, many of whom traveled significant distances to access essential healthcare services and gain valuable insights into their health and well-being.
During the event, AMBSO conducted prostate cancer screenings for 50 men aged 40 years and above. Of these, 11 individuals were identified with elevated Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) levels, a potential indicator of prostate cancer. Follow-up biopsies are currently underway at the Masaka Clinical Research Site Laboratory to provide further diagnosis.
The “Tubeere Balamu” campaign, meaning “Let’s Be Healthy,” was launched on the 30th of October 2024 by the Kabaka Foundation. This initiative aims to deliver free medical screenings, treatments, and public health education on a range of diseases. Supported by a consortium of public health and clinical partners, the program operates through annual rotational medical camps hosted in various counties within the Buganda Kingdom over a planned three-year period. The next medical camp is scheduled to take place on the 28th and 29th of January 2025 at St. Joseph’s Kyengera Parish in Busiro County and AMBSO will still take part.
