Dr. Susan M Kiene

Dr. Susan M. Kiene is a highly respected Professor of Global Health in the School of Public Health at San Diego State University (SDSU). With a career spanning over two decades, Dr. Kiene has made significant contributions to the field of global health, particularly in understanding the intersection of HIV, substance use, intimate partner violence, and related co-morbidities1. Her research has spanned multiple countries, including Uganda, Nigeria, Brazil, and South Africa.
Dr. Kiene has also been a key figure in several NIH-funded projects aimed at reducing alcohol use among men living with HIV in Uganda. Her work has included developing and testing interventions to reduce alcohol consumption and improve participation in HIV care, as well as increasing access to HIV testing and Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for men, women, and their families3. Through these collaborative efforts, Dr. Kiene has contributed to building a robust research infrastructure and improving public health outcomes in Uganda.
Dr. Kiene’s work with AMBSO includes several impactful projects aimed at addressing public health challenges in Uganda. She has greatly facilitated the development of community-based interventions and research initiative that target HIV prevention and treatment, as well as the integration of behavioral and structural approaches to improve health outcomes. Through this partnership, Prof. Kiene has contributed to advancing public health research and practice in resource-limited settings, significantly benefiting the communities served by AMBSO.
