Gloria Guevara Alvarez
COLLABORATOR
Dr. Guevara is a public health nutrition and health disparities researcher. She is a Global Health Postdoctoral Scholar at New York University’s School of Global Public Health (GPH), within the Department of Global and Environmental Health.
Her scholarship is centered on a commitment to decrease food insecurity, improve diet quality, and address poor nutrition as a risk factor for both communicable and non-communicable diseases in order to reduce disease burdens (e.g., HIV, cancer) in low resourced settings. Additionally, she cares deeply about sustainable food systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), which are a critical backdrop for addressing food insecurity and its adverse health impacts. Her expertise includes developing nutrition-related interventions that improve dietary intake among medically vulnerable populations in LMICs. The overarching goal of her work is to maximize health resources in low resource settings. She leads global initiatives and research that improve the health outcomes, especially health equity in cancer, among economically marginalized populations.
