Africa Medical and Behavioral Sciences Organization (AMBSO) www.ambso.org is a ‘Private Not for profit (PNFP) organization working in partnership with Uro Care Hospital, with head offices in Nansana along Hoima road and satellite office in Hoima town. AMBSO conducts community-based health surveillance research as well as health Care services delivery among communities in Wakiso and Hoima Districts. We are seeking to strengthen our staffing structure to support AMBSO research work. We invite qualified and competent applicants to fill vacant positions as indicated below: -

1. Job Title: Laboratory Assistant (1 Position) 6months contract – Renewable


Duty Station: Support both Hoima and Wakiso sites.

Reporting to: Study Supervisor

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

o Carry out basic field laboratory tests as required by the study protocols and submit reports to the study supervisor following the established standard operating procedures.

o Immediately process samples collected from participants for temporary storage in -200 freezers.

o Organize and support dispatch of samples to designated laboratories for storage in -800 freezer.

o Budgeting for all field and other medical supplies for AMBSO’s studies.

o Managing and accounting for allocated resources at the field stations.

o Participate in routine quality assurance guided by the Good Laboratory Practices.

o Compiling and submitting periodic reports.

 Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

o Must have a certificate in medical laboratory or its equivalent from a recognized institution and registered with the Allied Health Profession body.

o Applicant should have a valid practicing license and certification in good laboratory practice.

o Applicant should have experience of at least 2 years.

o Skills in professional code of conduct and ethics.

o Ability to work under minimum supervision.

o Excellent communication and collaboration skills.


2. Job Title: Counselor (1 Position) 6 Months Contract – Renewable


Duty Station: Support both Hoima and Wakiso sites.

Reporting to: Study Supervisor

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

o Assessing clients’ needs, abilities and behavior using a variety of methods, including: interviews and direct observation of behavior etc.

o Give general health education to research participants and provide unbiased information on HIV testing to clients and explaining the testing process in a simple way.

o Provide pre-test and post-test counseling to the study respondents.

o  Offer counseling support to participants who encounter mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, addictions, social and interpersonal problems and other challenging behaviors.

o  Prepare and submit periodic reports as required by the supervisor for purposes of assessing progress of the counseling activities.

o  Refer and support linkage of all HIV positive clients to their most convenient HIV Care and Treatment centers and where possible make follow-up of successful linkages.

o Be liaison between the AMBSO and referral centers particularly HIV linkage, GBV, among others.

o Participate in training and retraining of study protocols and standard operating procedures, administer informed consent and questionnaires to the study participants.

o Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time


 Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

o A minimum of a diploma in Counselling.

o A certificate in HIV counselling from a recognized Counseling Training school is a MUST.

o Must follow the code of ethics associated with the respective certification.

o  Must be fluent in both English and Luganda. Ability to write and speak Runyoro is an added advantage

o Ability to work under minimum supervision.

o Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

o At least 1year’s experience in counselling in an organizational setting.

3. Job Title: Job Title: Volunteer Research Assistants (5 Positions) 6 Months contract


Duty Station: Support both Hoima and Wakiso sites.

Reporting to: Study Supervisor

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

o Participate in training and retraining of study protocols and standard operating procedures.

o  Conduct health education and deliver relevant research related information to the study participants.

o Screen, assess eligibility and enroll study participants.

o Carry out household census.

o Administer informed consent to study participants.

o Complete study documents (Source documents, questionnaires or Case report forms) for the study participants.

o Collect biological samples from the study participants

o Compile and submit progress reports

o Any other official duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.


 Essential Qualifications/requirements

o The applicant should possess a minimum of A-Level certificate with a credit in English and Mathematics at “O” level.

o The applicants should be able to fluently speak and read Luganda, Runyoro or both.

o Ability to work under minimum supervision.

o Have good interviewing skills.

o Computer literacy/Computer skills a MUST.

o Experience in data collection and data entry is an added advantage.

o Riding skills with a valid riding permit is an added advantage.

Applications are invited from qualified and competent Ugandans to fill vacant position based at AMBSO Offices in Nansana as indicated below:

Job Title: DRIVER - 01 Position (6 months Project)


Location: Head office, Nansana T/C, Wakiso District.

Reporting to: Stores and Transport Officer

Contract type: Full time


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Drive the vehicle from Uro care static station to the field where activities shall be conducted as requested.

2. Ensuring that all passengers wear their seat belts at all times in the vehicle; ensure that goods in transit are safely secured and arrive at destination in proper condition.

3. Giving a hand in the loading and offloading field materials and helping all manual handlings as may be requested by the supervisors and/or other staff members.

4. Ensuring that all immediate actions required in the vehicle operation Standard Operating Procedures are taken care of.

5. Carry out daily checks before starting up the vehicle (oil level; water level; pressure of the tires etc.

6. Log official trips in the official log books;

7. Assist the administration and management Staff in preparation of accurate accountability of Fuel used whenever called upon.

8. Comply with traffic rules and regulations as well as road security and safety awareness to enable safe on-time arrival for meetings.

9. Day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the assigned vehicle

10. Provision of inputs and support in ensuring routine servicing and maintenance of all automobiles for the organisation.

11. Keep track of insurance and applicable tax formalities.

12. Perform any other duties relevant to the position that may be assigned from time to time.

 Essential Qualifications and competencies

o Minimum of ordinary level certificate

o A minimum of at least 2 years driving experience

o Must have a valid driving permit with a DL Class

o Ability to read and write English clearly

o Available to start work immediately.
